How can you make it better?

If it's bad, think of how you can make it better; even if it's just a bit.

I see people daily who have personal challenges. Some have injuries; others have degenerative illnesses, while some suffer from the side effects of being overweight. If there's one thing I've learnt from my experience with these individuals, is that there's always something that can be done to improve their condition no matter how bleak it may seem. In some cases it might be minor improvement, while in others, there's substantial gains to be made. There is however, one great obstacle to overcome.

The greatest most limiting factor in actualizing progress is the person's surrendered beliefs of the imposed limits inflicted upon them by that condition. In many instances the perceived limits are more a product of inadequate information, hearsay, and publicity, financed by pain for profit institutions that have a vested interest in your condition.

Once a name is given to an illness, syndrome, or other; people adopt beliefs about that condition. Those beliefs can either be empowering or disempowering and whatever your conclusion may be; there's a strong possibility that you will build your life around those convictions.

Once people have concluded that their knowledge is adequate to understand something, we have a tendency to seek references to confirm and support those ideas, and reject information that contradicts our understanding. If the sources of your information were faulty or skewed in the least bit, that limited and flawed understanding will become the foundation to create the labels that you'll wear for your condition.

I want to encourage you to never let anyone tell you there's nothing you can do to help yourself. There are sometimes factors beyond your control, but there are many factors that you can influence. If you're suffering with a condition, set yourself to find new information on it, don't set out to confirm what you already think; go the opposite way and see if you can contradict your present views.

I challenge you to investigate the curative properties of nutrition and how it can help your condition. If exercise is too strenuous for you at this time, look to more moderate activities that will make your body stronger. Few people and professionals are wise to the healing properties of exercise in the water. It's ideal for people who can't do weight bearing activities because you're 50% lighter in water. Look for classes at your local pool. These are just a few possibilities to address some of the most overlooked factors that can nudge many conditions in the right direction.

Start focusing on what you can do and stop looking at what you can't do. We're talking about your quality of life and no one cares about that as much as you should. You don't want to be your own greatest limiting factor.
